What is foot?

Foot is a unit of length in the imperial and US customary systems of measurement. The international standard symbol for a foot is “ft”.

The various lengths were due to parts of the human body historically being used as a basis for units of length. The measurement of the foot was used in many different systems including the Greek, Roman, English, Chinese, and French systems.

The size of foot can vary from system to system, but in each is around a quarter to a third of a metre. The most commonly used foot today is the international foot. There are 3 feet in a yard and 12 inches in a foot.
